A West Virginia ambulance crashed into a fire station Friday after an accident involving three other vehicles.
The Boone County Ambulance Authority crash happened at around 7:15 p.m. as the ambulance was leaving CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, according to the agency and WCHS-TV. The ambulance had run a red light with its siren and lights on as it was responding to a call when the accident occurred, WCHS and WOWK-TV report.
Crews at the scene told WSAZ-TV that the ambulance struck a car, sending it crashing into Kanawha City Fire Station No. 6. Although several firefighters were in the station, none of them were injured, but the impact did cause significant damage to the station, according to WCHS.
Three people were injured and taken to the hospital, including two EMS workers. The ambulance was not carrying a patient at the time of the crash.
Charleston police told WCHS that the ambulance was at fault for the accident.
"The Boone County Ambulance Authority is fully cooperating with the investigation and more details will be made available at a later time. Please keep our crew members and the other parties in your thoughts and prayers." the agency said in a statement posted to social media.
